Barium sulfate used in paint has low oil absorption and low paint base consumption, making it a thick film primer with good filling and permeability. It can also increase the hardness and wear resistance of the paint film, but its disadvantages are high density and easy precipitation.

Application of Barium Sulfate in Paint Industry

Barium sulfate is a white or grayish white crystalline powder, which is an important mineral containing material. It has advantages such as strong chemical inertness, good stability, acid resistance, high density, moderate hardness, high specific gravity, and high whiteness, which can absorb harmful rays (X-rays and Y-rays). So what is its role in the paint industry?
Sulfuric acid is superior to most other fillers, especially in chemical resistant coatings. Its sensitivity, insolubility in dry water, acid, alkali, and organic mediators, glossiness, and particle fineness ensure long-term protection of topcoats. Barium sulfate is recommended for topcoats as it can increase surface hardness and color stability.
2. Latex paint
Due to weight reasons, steel sulfate can only be used in latex paint, mainly for high gloss and silk texture paint, and is known as "acid resistant" latex paint. Even when exposed, it has acid resistance, easy dispersibility, rotation retention, and retention, which can increase its chemical properties. Barium sulfate can be used in both high gloss paint and latex paint.
3. Large scale paint and paint
It has the characteristics of low cohesion, low light dispersion, and fine particle retention, especially suitable for pigment topcoats, varnishes, spray paints, etc. According to research, sulfuric acid now has chemical and weather resistance
4. Primer
Primers generally require a fineness between 30-40 microns. The paint has a high density and is easy to precipitate, while talc powder has a low density and is not easy to precipitate. However, it is difficult to obtain a fineness from 30 microns down. (Refers to 800 or 1250 purposes) The fineness of sulfuric acid used in paint is very good to below 20 microns. Within this particle size range, it is not easy to precipitate and can be stored for 3 months without any problem. Currently, natural barium and precipitated barium are two commonly used specifications in the paint industry. Natural barium has a small oil absorption capacity and can be used for thick coating of primers, with good filling ability, and can increase the hardness and wear resistance of the paint film. But it is easy to settle. Precipitated barium sulfate is synthesized through chemical synthesis, with a specific gravity of around 2.6-2.8, which greatly increases the settling time in paint. But the price is relatively high. The effect is very good when used in topcoat.
